I would recommend this book to every wrestler and wrestling coach in the country; the simplistic, yet comprehensive overview of such a complex topic makes this a must read for anyone interested in staying away from dangerous habits and instead wants to focus on a winning season with healthy, strong, lean athletes.
Christopher R. Mohr, PhD, RD
Anyone who is interested in obtaining optimal results in any sport, exercise or athletic competition better be well informed about proper nutrition, or get use to fighting an uphill battle. Inside The Grapplers Guide to Sports Nutrition Dr. John Berardi and Michael Fry go far beyond defining what constitutes a protein or carbohydrate. Berardi and Fry use cutting edge scientific research to provide specific information that will lead to optimal results. It is a well laid out book that is easy to read yet full of information and details from one of the worlds leading authorities on sports nutrition.
Don't know what to eat before a competition, or after a competition, it's in there. How about losing fat mass to make a weight class. That's in there too. If it has to do with nutrition and grappling in anyway possible, it's in this book. This is bar none the best book on nutrition for grapplers that I have ever come across.”
Ryan Foster
Former Professional Hockey PlayerStrength and Conditioning Coach
"Berardi and Fry effectively tackled the archaic nutritional practices often employed by grapplers. But don't think for a second that this information is limited to grapplers. Anyone can benefit from this book."
Eric Cressey, MA, CSCS
This latest work encompasses the needs of the athletes, coaches and parents. In spite of an abundance of information, miseducation in the area of nutrition and competition preparation is as rampant as ever. I think you've done a great job of identifying the problems that exist in the Neanderthal type approach to training and nutrition for grapplers. From post workout nutrition to pre and post competition nutrition this book provides detailed and easy to implement solutions.
If you want to win, and stay alive while trying to do it then you need to read this book.

It starts off with vital information about the danger of prolonged caloric restriction and the practice of extreme weight loss among grappling athletes. Then the book proceeds to simplify the nutrition process and presents a very complete template for nutritional balance. In fact, this book provides great value to athletes and all who seek optimal performance, by clarifying such important but misunderstood aspect of a sound nutritional plan.
Some of the key points discussed include emphasizing eating and food over supplementation and useful rules of thumb, such as looking at a foods macronutrient to calorie ration to determine foods with the most 'bang for your buck'.
In sum, The Grappler's Guide to Sports Nutrition is the new standard for step-by-step guidance to what, when and how to eat for athletic supremacy, even providing sample menus that make healthy eating simple yet enjoyable.
Thank you John and Michael for writing such an exceptional book. I will recommend it to every athlete I know!"

Although this book was specifically designed for grapplers (wrestlers, submission wrestlers, etc.), it should be looked at as the holy grail of nutrition books for all people who want to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Anybody looking to perform better or just live longer and healthier should look to this book.

Any thing less than quality nutrition is placing you, as an athlete, at a distinct disadvantage. Ask yourself this question…..How, When and What can I do, as a wrestler or competitive athlete, to ensure that I am getting the “BEST” nutrition I can at the most optimal times, so I can avoid compromising my performance???
Easy…Start by purchasing “The Grappler’s Guide To Sports Nutrition” John Berardi and Mike Fry have created a “one of a kind” nutritional resource that will provide you, your parents and coaches a common sense nutritional plan that will keep you strong throughout the entire season while providing you logical proven ways to get your nutritional game plan ready for the BIG MATCHES not to mention your daily workouts. You know longer have to worry about what I call “Empty Tank Syndrome”, again. Don’t lose a match because of poor nutritional planning and don’t rely on dangerous weight cutting approaches. Get the Grappler’s Guide to Sports Nutrition Today, and take advantage of what most of your opponents don’t know….. Nutrition can and will make you stronger in the third period!!
Oh and by the way….Fitness minded individuals…Wrestlers aren’t the only ones that need a quality nutritional plan. At age 42 my workouts are now “super charged naturally” thanks to Mike and John. They are absolutely “Dead On” when it comes to easy and effective ways to boost your workouts IMMEDIATELY!!

Mike,
I like this e book A LOT!! it's about time that something like this came out, and I think it should be in the hands of every grappler, especially coaches and parents (required reading might I add).
The chapter wrap ups are golden because they highlight what is critical. Another thing I favor here is the sample menus - most people want this part big time because the work is cut out for them. Grapplers like to train, train, train....this gets them to the finish line with out having to enter the race. Also, the info is not overly complex so it will not require constant re-reading to understand the info. between you and John, having decades of in the trenches and scientific experience together this book is the $%^& bro

" As always, Dr. Berardi hits the nail on the head or shall I say performs a perfect Granby in detailing just how any age wrestler should eat for optimal performance and weight management. As a former collegiate wrestler (collegiate and freestyle) who has competed in high-level tournaments, I just wish that I had the knowledge shared in this book years back. This book is a must have".
